First Annual Secondary School Business Plan Competition Awards

The Greater Collingwood Small Business Enterprise Centre hosted the 1st Annual Secondary School Business Plan Competition Awards on June 26, 2008 at Georgian Manor Resort. The Secondary School Business Plan Competition and the Greater Collingwood Enterprise Centre (GCSBEC) are both sponsored by the Ministry of Small Business and Consumer Services. John Martin, Manager of The Ministry of Small Business and Consumer Services, was in attendance. The GCSBEC is administered by the Town of Collingwood Economic, Development Department.

The guest speaker for the evening was Bob Madigan, owner of Vibe Music & Clothing located in Collingwood. Bob spoke about his experiences in business and gave advice to the students about entrepreneurship.

The Secondary School Business Plan Competition is an opportunity for Ontario high school students to create a business plan and compete with their peers throughout the province for cash awards. Students first compete at a local business plan competition in their area, and then the winner of each local competition becomes a finalist within their region. Winners for each region will then compete for a placement at the provincial level.
